Built to Last | Intro to Handbuilding (2-part series)

  • Talent Maker City 304 E Main St. Talent, OR 97540 (map)

Workshop Dates: 3/14 and 3/21

During this two-part hand building series you will learn slab/coil construction to make a plate, bowl and tumbler. You will use the pieces you made to explore the technique of sgraffito. Sgraffito is the art of carving through one layer of under glaze to reveal the raw clay beneath. It is a fantastic way to explore new ways of surface design.

Week 1 we will build our pieces. Week 2 we will apply underglaze and sgraffito our pieces. Having some experience with hand building is helpful but not required.

Cost includes instruction, clay, bisque-firing, clear glaze, and a final firing. If you would like to glaze your own piece, please sign up for a “Stop, Drop, ‘n Glaze” workshop at least two weeks after this series.

By completing this workshop, you will be eligible for Handbuilding Open Studio in the Ceramics Department at Talent Maker City.

If you are redeeming credits from a class cancellation, please log in and checkout on our eventbrite page.

ACTUAL COST: $130 YOUR COST: $100*
