Candlestick Edition

Come play with us on the lathe! In this class, we'll be focusing on shaping and replicating techniques by designing and turning a set of candlesticks. Turning instructor Piper will teach you how to use a variety of gouges to shape your own unique candlestick design, giving you the skills you need to turn spindles of all sorts, including rolling pins, spin tops, furniture legs, and pens. For this class, some experience is recommended but not required.

No previous experience required.

Meet the instructor, Piper Tamler!

Piper is passionate about building and teaching, and Talent Maker City is the magical place where she gets to do both! Experienced as a contractor, carpenter and natural builder, Piper knows her way around all corners of the shop, but has really found wood to be her material of choice. She has been honing her skills in joinery and fine woodworking, and if she absolutely had to choose her favorite woodworking activity, it would have to be turning bowls on the lathe. She has taught natural building and carpentry workshops in Oregon, Vermont, Nicaragua, and Guatemala, and spends every summer teaching kids to create beautiful, useful things with TMC's partner organization, Girls Build. Piper helped kick off TMC's fire relief program in the fall of 2020, and has been teaching and building with TMC ever since!
